This one day conference will take a broad brush look at the area of energy from waste and biomass. It will identify the waste sources and where they originate, the political and legislative drivers, what factors determine whether to produce energy or to recycle the material, the conversion methods and their technical limitations, and the future challenges for this technology. The day will focus specifically on: incineration • gasification • pyrolysis • CHP • anaerobic digestion • cellulosic biofuels • energy from algae • biological and microbial fuel cells • energy harvesting. Materials issues which are critical to these processes will also be identified and discusses.
