Peer review is an essential part of our grant assessment process. Our grant reviewers provide expert and impartial reviews, allowing our grant decision panels to make considered funding decisions.
Please note that we are currently not recruiting additional reviewers to join this group.

Why join the Researcher Grants Peer Review Group?
As a researcher, you’ll know that peer review is a vital part of the funding ecosystem. Being a peer reviewer can therefore help you to develop as a researcher by:
-
Improving your own grant-writing skills. Seeing the grant-awarding process from the perspective of a reviewer can help you to understand how assessors think and therefore what makes a strong grant application.
-
Bolstering your CV and future job applications by including your membership of our Peer Review Group and details of the skills you’ve developed.
-
Keeping up to date with what is happening in your field and the wider community.
How we assign reviewers
When assigning applications to reviewers, we consider:
- Subject expertise
- Level of experience of the reviewer. For example, some schemes require reviewers to be independent researchers or equivalent
- Regional or geographical expertise for international grant schemes
- Known potential conflicts of interest (for example, we will not assign reviewers to applications based at the same institution)
