Support for teaching and research
One of the major channels through which we support universities is through our policy and research work, from ensuring you have the funding you need for the provision of high quality teaching to assessing the impact of immigration law on chemistry staff and students.
To support UK university chemistry departments in making their own policies, we have created a flexible, online data platform that provides . We can provide bespoke information for individual departments on request.
We also provide health, safety and environmental guidance that universities can use to identify chemical hazards and risks and manage their laboratories safely. This sits alongside a host of other tools and resources through that support teaching and learning within universities.
See what has to offer your institution's staff and students. The portfolio spans the breadth of the chemical sciences, from general chemistry to materials science and biophysics, with thousands of the highest quality research articles free to access. Our commitment to advancing the chemical sciences also means all profits from publishing activities are put back into serving the chemistry community.
We also hold workshops to discuss best practice in diversity to enhance your institution's application for status.
Doctoral Training Accreditation
We accredit doctoral training courses for meeting the requirements of our professional awards Registered Scientist (RSci) and Chartered status (CChem)
This is an independent, peer-reviewed, joint approach with the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Physics (providing routes to chartership in these disiplines). Accreditation can include students across the three main sciences or those on multidisciplinary programmes.
By getting your course accredited, you are demonstrating your commitment to industry collaborators and partners, of supporting the development of key employability skills. Students will know that your course enables them to gain Chartership in their relevant science discipline.
Our accredited university programmes
University | Course | Year last reviewed |
---|---|---|
University of Bath | Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies | 2016 |
Imperial College London | MARS: Membership & Accredited Recognition Scheme | 2017 |
UCL, University of Nottingham and Solid State Pharmaceutical Cluster | Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies CDT | 2020 |
University of Warwick | Post Graduate Certificate in Transferable Skills | 2019 |
How is this different from degree accreditation?
Doctoral training accreditation provides assurance and recognition for the skills-development elements within a doctoral programme. We typically accredit Centres for Doctoral Training and other formalised development programmes such as those delivered through a university’s Graduate School. Training and development activities are mapped against the attributes for Registered Scientist (which students may gain during their PhD) and Chartered Chemist, Chartered Biologist or Chartered Physicist. This accreditation gives participating students a head start on their journey towards chartership, and helps them build a portfolio of evidence towards evidencing key employability skills.
The fee for accreditation is £3000 which covers the one-off assessment of the application and site visit and expenses. There is a fee for accreditation of £2000 for every year accredited. This covers all disciplines involved in the doctoral programme.
Our partners
Working closely with our sister professional bodes, the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Physics we have ensured that expectations of chartership across the sciences are comparable.
We have streamlined our processes so getting your programme accredited is simpler.
This post-graduate accreditation programme has been integrated with . This gives you confidence in how skills development and recognition aligns with core skills essential to researchers.
