This Group is one of the RSC's many Interest Groups. The interest groups are member driven groups that exist to benefit RSC members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with the RSC's strategy and charter.
The group was formed in 2003, having previously been a special interest group (The Nucleic Acids and Molecular Biology Group) of both the RSC and the Biochemical Society.
Our aims
The purpose of the group is to promote the subject of nucleic acids (including aspects of their chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics).
Our events and activities
We hold a Symposium on Nucleic Acids Chemistry and Biology in Cambridge, UK and support early career researchers by running the Nucleic Acids Forum each year in July.
We also hold meetings covering topics including:
- nucleic acid structure
- ligand-nucleic acid or protein-nucleic acid interactions
- molecular biology
- nucleic acids as enzymes
- tools or therapeutic targets
Our travel bursary scheme
This scheme is for any student who:
- is enrolled in a post-graduate research programme (Ph.D. or Master’s)

- is a member of the RSC Nucleic Acids Group
- will present (in either oral or poster form) at the meeting the bursary if for
The maximum value of each Bursary is £150.
