Reflecting on International Women's Day and the importance of inclusivity in events
Jessica Gallagher, Venue and Hospitality Manager at the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ at Burlington House, reflects on this year’s theme for International Women’s Day - ‘Inspiring Inclusion’ and the importance of championing it consistently.
It’s always interesting to see the annual theme for International Women’s Day, but this year in particular, ‘Inspiring Inclusion’ particularly resonates with me.
That’s because inclusion is a theme that is so intrinsically tied to my role and what the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ at Burlington House strives to bring to each and every event it hosts.
After all, inclusivity is fundamentally what events are all about – the idea that everyone in attendance feels welcomed and part of the experience. From a conference playing host to speakers that resonate deeply with those in attendance, to a private dinner incorporating a menu where everyone’s choices and requirements are thoughtfully considered, inclusivity is the cornerstone that makes events truly memorable for those in attendance.
Being truly inclusive isn’t always easy, but it’s essential to ensure we are continually challenging preconceptions and breaking down barriers that may hinder growth. Inclusivity can act as a cornerstone for fostering innovation, cultivating career growth and promoting continuous learning, but only when it’s championed by people and organisations that value a diversity of perspectives, experiences and backgrounds.
I am fortunate that my role here at the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ at Burlington House allows me to work alongside a team of individuals from a variety of different backgrounds, and I truly believe it's our varied experiences that help contribute to the success of our events.
Embracing a wide variety of voices ensures that our team is not only more innovative but also creates an environment where each member feels genuinely appreciated for the unique strengths they bring to the table. Inclusion, therefore, becomes a catalyst for unlocking the full potential of our team.
In the ever-evolving events industry, an inclusive mindset is not just an asset, but a necessity. Everyone we welcome through our doors has as much right to be there as the next person. Inclusivity is a necessity for a successful event, and I’m proud to be able to champion it here every day at the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ at Burlington House.
