Following her undergraduate chemistry degree, Dr Morton completed her Colt Foundation PhD in Analytical Chemistry in Sheffield (from Sheffield Hallam University) in 1999. After a post-doctoral position at University of Leeds playing with micro LC-MS, she returned to the world of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS), at the then Health and Safety Laboratory in Sheffield. She is now a principal scientist at HSE’s 新月直播app下载 and Research Centre in Buxton, where she has spent the past 20 years undertaking elemental analysis in biological samples, developing new methods and research in the field of Biological Monitoring. The work at HSE has been very diverse and rewarding, and she has been able to work collaboratively externally with both international and national scientific committees as well as universities, where she has supervised PhD students.

Dr Morton has worked on the local Sheffield and District RSC committee since she was a PhD student. It is an active committee and Dr Morton is proud of the events it hosts, especially those for children, which started with Chemistry at Work events and currently includes the school quizzes for Top of the Bench and public engagement and schools’ events. She is also the treasurer on the RSC Atomic Spectroscopy Group and work includes helping to organise the Biennial Conference BNASS, a three-day conference bringing together chemists from the world of elemental analysis.
